Background of the Study:
Ethnic conflicts have been a major source of human rights violations in many regions of Nigeria, especially in areas where ethnic groups coexist and competition for resources, political power, or social dominance leads to violent clashes. In Wukari, Taraba State, ethnic tensions between the Jukun and Tiv people have escalated over the years, resulting in widespread violence, displacement, and violations of basic human rights (Umar, 2024). These ethnic conflicts have led to significant loss of life, destruction of property, and disruption of daily activities. The impact on the rights of affected individuals, particularly in relation to the right to life, security, education, and access to justice, is profound.
While ethnic conflicts are often rooted in historical grievances, competition for scarce resources, and political manipulation, they continue to pose a serious challenge to human rights in Nigeria, exacerbating existing social and economic inequalities.
